What is Acupuncture?

Let us guide you through the key component of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture.

Traditional Chinese Medicine believes that any pain or disorders originate from imbalance of flow of energy in our body. Acupuncture treatment aims to restore this balance by inserting strategic combination of points on the meridians. Prior to the treatment, thorough assessment will be held to determine the required selection of the points, which can help achieve the best treatment outcomes.

The description of Acupuncture in Western Medical terminology is, an insertion of points in the soft tissues to stimulate nerves, muscles and connective tissue. This leads to profuse blood circulation and distribution of the pain relief hormones on the area of the injury.

" But it's painful and scary ! "

You might visualize Acupuncture treatment as a using of thick needles as seen on immunization or blood test, which can be a painful experience. However, our acupuncture needle is 1/6 in diameter of these needle and more similar to a strand of a hair. This produces predominantly pain-free and enjoyable experiences. Majority of our patient describes our treatment as relaxing and unwinding session. We usually retain the needle in the body for 15 ~ 25min to activate blood and energy flow. While the needle is inserted, it is mostly pain free, or you might experience tingling, pulsing or heaviness, which we consider as a good response. if there is any discomfort, our therapist is ready to assist you with any complaints.

" Will I be bleeding with needle poking in my skin? "

As mentioned above, acupuncture needle is very thin. Once we withdraw the needles, mostly it is blood free, but even it does bleed, only one or couple drops are released, and you can go back to your normal daily routine.

This ancient alternative medicine is practiced by placing special cups on the skin for a few minutes to create reversed pressure (suction). Despite its unappealing look, the treatment is mostly pain-less and generally feeling 'a bit of tightness only' during treatment.

Cupping is done with variety of conditions. It is commonly used for musculoskeletal injuries involving pain, inflammation and stiffness. With the reversed pressure of cupping, it promotes blood flow in to the local area which helps to release the muscles, reduce the pain. Cupping also helps to improve general well-being, as it can be used for low energy, headache/migrains, digestion, and women's health, as it stimulate the circulation of energy and blood along the meridians.
